Back
In Glyphotext, you always edit a text one sequence at a time.
In order to navigate from one sequence to the other, you will use the Document Navigator,
found on the right side of the interface.
The content of a document is presented in a tree structure.
First, at the root is the name of the GOT file. The first level contains the sections, and
each section contains one or more sequences (2nd level). Compare this to the parts and
chapters of a book.
To add a section to a document, press the New section

button
To delete a selected section, press the
Delete section
button.
This also delete all sequences contained in the section.
To add a sequence to the current (selected) section, press the
New sequence
button
To delete a selected sequence, press the
Delete sequence
button
The Document Properties
button
allows access to the Document Properties dialog, which contains the meta-information for the document.
Once a new document is created, it can become useful/important to preserve the data for its future
identification and classification.
Back
Here are the usual steps to follow :
- You can create a new document, either at the time of launching GOT,
or by using the New Document button in the Main toolbar, or pressing CTRL+N
- You can specify the parameters of this new document by bringing up the Document Page Setup
dialog, available through the main menu. Select Options > Document Page Setup.
At a minimum, the following settings should be specified:
- The height of the hieroglyphs (under the Hieroglyphs tab). By default (this is Glyphotext's factory setting),
height is set at 0,70 cm (a usual standard).
- The paper size (under the Print Options tab).
- Then, you can adjust the size of the hieroglyphs which appear on your screen.
As in MS Word, this is a zoom function, expressed as a percentage. The Zoom factor
dropdown is located on the main toolbar (top-left of the application window).
- In the Document Navigator window, (on the right), you enter the properties of your new
document.
- You save a first blank version your new document (it is good practice in any application
to save your work to a file as soon as possible).
- You are ready to start your editing work! Have fun!
